Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin has pledged renewed governmental backing for Switzerland''s blockchain sector, signaling a strategic push to reclaim the country''s position as a global leader in digital asset innovation. The commitment comes as jurisdictions worldwide intensify efforts to attract crypto enterprises.

Switzerland''s Crypto Valley, once the unrivaled epicenter of blockchain activity between 2015-2019, has seen its competitive edge erode. "The Federal Council recognizes the need to act decisively," Parmelin stated during an address to industry leaders at the Federal Palace, emphasizing technology-neutral regulation as key to long-term hub status.

The Swiss Blockchain Federation convened 30 executives following Parmelin''s February 2025 tour of Crypto Valley, where he observed the cross-cantonal ecosystem''s maturation. "Blockchain has graduated from niche to national economic priority," the Economic Affairs Minister noted, acknowledging the sector''s contributions to Switzerland''s innovation landscape.
